Excerpts from the interview:
What does the merger with OrbiTech mean to Polaris ?
Polaris has underlined its global leadership in the BFSI (Banking, Financial Services and Insurance) space through the merger. With an international roadmap clearly defined, the new entity will now be firmly placed in the premium league of BFSI solution providers, both in India and in the global arena. We are at a critical point in our business growth, where we are close to completing the integration process. We are already putting strategies in place to leverage the strong synergies present within the organizationanisation and drive strong business growth.
What is your idea of taking a day off?
I prefer relaxing with the family and kids during a day off. I spend the time with my eleven-year-old son, Uday, and four-year-old daughter, Aarushi. We generally love going on long drives. Sometimes we also go to a nice restaurant that my children choose, to have a quiet dinner.
Which is the book you would say has inspired you the most?
The book that inspired me the most is "Fifth Discipline" by Peter Singe, published in 1995. It provides a balanced perspective to addres any issue. It guides the reader towards viewing problems at the systemic level and addressing the cause, rather than just treating the tangible manifestation of the problem.
Who do you think has been a major influence on your life?
My brother Shailendra Jain has been major influence in my life. He graduated from IIT (Delhi) in 1997. He is more like a friend than a brother, who has enabled me to take many hard decisions including my decision to become an entrepreneur directly after graduation rather than going to the US. He has given me confidence and guidance at every step of my growth. I would also like to mention another person, who played a major role in my life - my father. He taught me that despite all constraints, one could live a principled life and remain focused on "what is right for the family". I have worked towards employing this principle in nurturing the growth of the "extended Polaris family" of associates, now about 4270 of them, and helping them live their dreams.
What is your vision for the company?
Polaris is a customer centric organisation and aspires to be a leading one-stop solutions provider in the BFSI (Banking, Financial Services and Insurance) supermarket, offering products, services, solutions and operations. Post merger with OrbiTech, Polaris has chosen the path of IP-led services roadmap, which will propel the company to the higher end of the value chain in the global BFSI market.
